Arupadai Veedu Murugan Temple Besant Nagar - The Granite Temple of Lord Muruga

Arupadai Veedu Murugan temple (The six abodes of Lord Murugan in English) is one the eminent temples dedicated to Lord Murugan/Subramanya in the Chennai city. The most special and unique feature about this abode is that it has sanctums for all Arupadai veedus (Six War Houses) of Lord Muruga.  The serene atmosphere, sound of waves, smell of sea sands, a divine silence with the grace of Lord Muruga, makes it one of the most powerful place of worship. This place offers the best surroundings for an immense meditation. You can sit in silence for n number of hours without any disturbances. The presence of six abodes of Lord Murugan can never be seen in any places in the world. There is also big sanctum for Lord Ganesha/Ganapathy. Many devotees offer prasadhams daily to devotees in order to please Lord Murugan for the grace he has been showering to the universe. It is said that the great saint and ardent Devotee of Lord Muruga, Sri Sadhguru Pamaban Swamigal whose jeeva samadhi temple is located at about one kilometer from this temple predicted that there is going to be a construction of Arupadai Murugan temple in that locality, long time ago. Still there are many miracles happening around this temple.

Temple History

In 1984, Dr Alagappa Alagappan, came up with an idea of having all Arupadai abodes at the same place. So that people can seek the blessings of all the six abodes in a single temple complex, He went to the sage Kanchi Paramacharya and conveyed his thoughts on this. The sage, nodded, and gave a go to this divine project. An acre of land was allocated for the construction of this granite temple by then chief minister Dr. MG. Ramachandran. The sannidhis were built step by step. And the Consecration of this temple was held on 2002.
