History:
Sri Parimala Ranganathar Temple in Indaloor, a town in the Mayiladuthurai District is devoted to Lord Vishnu. This temple is popular as it is believed Lord Chandra relieved from his curse after Lord Vishnu's blessings. This spot got the significant name Indaloor henceforth,as Indu means Moon. This temple is mentioned as one among the Pancharanga Kshetram having Ranganathar as a main deity,in the banks of River Cauvery . Its another Sthala purana is River Kauvery pleaded Ranganathar to get well known as of River Ganga for its sacredness and so Ranganathar blessed the Cauvery to get the fullest holiness by having himself at its banks. Additionally when the Vedas are about to be diminished by the asuras, the Lord Vishnu presented himself and destroyed the asuras by not allowing for the sin they about to commit. Consequently by purifying the Vedas, this temple got its name as Parimala meaning Purification as well as Fragrance.Moolavar Lord Parimala Ranganathar can be consumed in his Veera Sayanam Posture having River Cauvery at his feet.The consort of Parimala Ranganathar is Parimala Ranganayaki, who is also called Chandrasaapa Vimochanavalli and Pundareekavalli.The sanctuary has places of worship of Yoga Narasimhar, Rama, Anjaneya, Surya and Chandra. The temple has three prakarams (regions) that house all the shrines and has a five-tier, east-bound Rajagopuram. The Dwajasthamba Mandapam and Garuda Mandapam have etched columns, with the last having pictures of ten avatars of Vishnu having prostrate Thumbikai Alwar at its entry.
