Vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar

Ramalinga Adigalar is a great saint/sage who strictly condemned against the caste differences that is inequality by birth.He who the person created center for feeding the poor people ever.He said feeding the poor is the highest form of worship.

Early Life:

Ramalinga Adigal was the youngest child of Ramaiah Pillai and his sixth wife Chinnamaiar.They lived in a village called Marudur located at Chidambaram.Ramalinga Adigal has five elders,older were two sons,Sabhapathi and Parasuraman and two daughters,Sundarammal and Unnamali.When he was five months old,parents took him to Chidhambaram temple.It is said that the baby laughed aloud when the preist offered aradhana to lord.In the year 1824,his father died.The family shifted to residence of her mother.Two years after,family shifted to chennai ( Vallalar Vaitha Illam).The eldest brother Sabhapathi planned to educate his youngest sibling.Ramalinga Adigal showed a deep interest in the education and also preffered tips to local Kandasamy temple.He asked for a separate room in his house where he palced a single mirror and lit a lamp beside it.He started to meditate.This proves young boy's spiritual journey began here.His elder brother was a learned scholar and tells religious stories.One time Ramalinga Adigal had an opportunity to tell religious stories subsyituting his brother for a session.The onlookers were amazed by his performance.His brother acknowledged his spiritual superiority.Ramalinga Adigal was forced to marry her sister's daughter.He renounced the world at the age of thirteen.He shifted to Vadalur due to some circumstances.

Ramalinga Adigalar's Teachings:

 Ramalinga Adigal established Satyagnana Sabha at Vadalur where heaps of grain bags are provided.He was the one who openly came out against caste system and its negative imapcts on society.He redressed the situation by establishing the "Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Satya Sangam" in 1865 meaning,Society for pure truth in universal self hood.He also set up a free eating house called The Sathya Dharma Salai in Vadalur in 1867 where all can eat without any caste differences.In the entrance to Sathya Gnana Sabha there is a sign above says "Only those who have renounced meat and murder should enter".Primary teaching of Vallalar is "Service to mankind is path of moksha".He also declared that death is not natural,that is our life's first priority should be to fight death.Religion is Darkness says Ramalinga Adigal.He clearly states that god is 'Arul Perumjothi' who is personification of mercy and knowledge.In 1867,he established center for feeding poor people.On the inagural day,he lit the fire of the stone stove declaring fire be ever alive and needy shall be ever alive and needy shall be fed forever.The Sathya Gnana Sabhai is not a temple to perform puja,no fruits or flowers are offered and no blessings too.This is open to all people except those who ate meat.Only below 12 years or above 72 years are allowed to enter Gnanasabai.The oil lamp lit by him is kept perpetually burning which is a sign of saying that "Our soul is blinded by seven veils".The entire complex is bounded by chains with 21600 links represnting 21600 inhalations by normal humanbeing.Ramalinga Adigal says that the intelligence possessed by us is not true.The path of final intelligence is "Jeeva Karunyam".

Ramalinga Adigalar Literary Works:

Ramalinga Adigal composed several poems which are of universal love and peace which was compiled into Tirumuraigal.Now it is available as a single book called Thiruvarutpa.Another book called Manumurai Kanda Vasagam about the life of Manu Needhi Cholan.Most notable factor of his life was attained a divinization of physical body.He totally attained of three  transformations.By the transformations he demonstrated ultimate states of spirituality can infact be attained in this world with physical body and death is not a necessity to experience the ultimate spiritual experience.

Disappearance (Jeeva Samadhi Of Ramalinga Adigalar) :

He gave his last lecture,entering his audience to undertake a spiritual quest and look into nature of powers that lie beyond us and move us and asking them to meditate on lighted lamp from his room,which he placed outside.After the incident,entered the room and locked himself and told his followers not to open.He disappeared on January 30,1874.After many rumors government finally forced the doors to open and found the room was empty,with no clues.This incident proves he attained Suddha Degam - shadowless body.
