Sri Pratyangara Devi
Pratyangara/Prathyangira Devi temple, dedicated to Goddess Pratyangara Devi, a manifestation of Kali(Ugra Avatar), situated at Ayyavadi Village close to Kumbakonam Town in Thanjavur District of Tamilnadu. The Main Deity is called as Agastheeshwarar and Goddess is called Dharma Samvardhini. Despite the fact that the directing Deity is Lord Shiva, significance is given to Pratyangara Devi. Indeed, the Temple is likewise called as Pratyangira Devi Temple. The development of this temple is not the same as the ordinary South Indian temples. It looks more like a North Indian temple. The shrine is more than 1000 years of age and is related to legends of the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
The main ritual at Ayyavadi Pratyangira Devi Temple is Nikumbala Yagna takes place on every no-moon days. It is said that Lord Sri Ram performed this Yagna to defeat Ravana and Indrajith.
Purana :
As per Hindu mythology, the outrage and wrath of Lord Narasimha, avatar of Lord Vishnu, couldn't be halted after he murdered King Hiranyakashipu, father of Prahalada. To calm Him down with the force of sympathy, Lord Shiva took the incarnation of Lord Sarabeshwarar with the Face of the Lion and wings of Eagle. With Sri Pratyangira Devi and Sri Soolini Durga on His wings, Lord Sarabeshwarar calmed Lord Narasimha and recovered the peace. From then, it is ironically believed that both Sri Mahaprathyangira Devi and Sri Sarabeswarar are believed to be mightier than other powers.
Nikumbala Yagna :
Nikumbala Yagna performed on no moon days draws in a great many devotees. It is performed to overcome the troubles, to defeat enemies, to advance in work and business, for early marriage and for recapturing lost positions and things. Those experiencing difficulty with Sani in horoscope likewise performs out the Yagna. Nikumbala Yagna is an intricate Yagna in which 108 materials are utilized including organic products, chilies, vegetables, nuts, silk saris, and so forth. The wonder in this shrine is that despite the fact that few sacks of chilies are utilized in Yagna, the zesty smoke exuding from the yajna does not make any kind of issues like tingling to eyes and irritation.

Morning Darshan is from 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM
Evening Darshan is from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Auspicious Days of this Shrine :
All new moon days, Tuesdays, and Fridays have celebrations celebrated in this temple. Also on Amavasai, Ashtami, Sunday are exceptional days for offering pooja to Prathyangira Amman.
