History of Ranakpur temple:
According to the history, Dhanna Shah was inspired in his dreams where he saw a celestial vehicle that determined him to build this temple which was like made by God themselves. Dhanna Shah the merchant was assisted by the King Rana Khumba where in return he wanted the temple to be named after him. It is said that Deepak, a divine devotee of jains came up with the sketch of the temple after days of meditation, it was as if God drew themselves. They started to build in 1394 C.E, it took 50 years for sculptors to make the Ranakpur temple into existence.
Specifications of the temple:
The temple has 1444 carved pillars, the temple has 24 pillared halls along 80 domes which are paralleled to 40 columns; the largest entrance is called Chaumukha shrine where the entrance has a statue of Lord Adinath; It also gained it's fame by a 4 headed image of Lord Adinath which hints the tirthankaras who is the saviour in Jainism. The geometrical complexity designs are one of a kind which is still a wonder for the humans in the intelligence of the craftsmen and sculptors who built the temple. The carvings of the people draw the eyes of the tourists.
Beauty Hidden in Ranakpur temple:
Having a plot of 48,000 square feet which took 50 years to build is definitely worthy of the cherish and joy given to the devotees and the tourists till now. There's a massive difference in the temperature compared to the exterior and interior of the temple. There is a sudden drop in temperature when you enter the temple. The temple is built in such a way that whatever the doorway you enter in you still end up in the main courtyard. The temple is true to its vision of the celestial vehicle; The valley in the Aravali hills makes it even more beautiful for the tourists.
Ingression for the Temple:
There aren't any complications for non devotees, everyone is welcome. Entry is free but a small donation of 100 rupees is collected for the cameras and cell phones. Slippers, belts or bare bodied aren't allowed inside. There are small restaurants for the tourists. The temple is open from 12.00pm to 5.00pm everyday. The priests are quite helpful and some take on tours inside the temple. To reach Ranakpur temple, cars and buses are easy for accommodation from Udaipur. Falna is the nearest railway station at a distance of 26 kilometres.
Timings of the Temple:
Ranakpur Jain Temple is open throughout the week from 6:30 am to 8:15 pm. The time for the tour is 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
