Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple, Haripad:
Haripad was previously known as Eakachakra. The Haripad temple’s chief deity is Lord Muruga. In this temple, He is seen with his lace in one hand, Vajrayadha in another, one hand bestowing blessing to the devotees and the other is placed on the thighs. Lord Muruga is in the form of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma here. The temple apart from the chief deity who faces west, also has Dakshina moorthy, Shasta, Thiruvambadi Kannan, Naga, and Lord Ganesh.
Temple History / Specials
It is believed that this oldest temple in Kerala has been established even before Kaliyuga. Also, it is called Southern Palani. The idol of Lord Muruga is believed to be the one used by Lord Parasurama, and has been left in the back waters. All the landlords of Haripad dreamt of the idol, and then started to bring it back. In Nelpurakavadu, they brought it to the shore, and the idol was retrieved 3 days after Thiruvonam. It is also said that Lord Vishnu appeared as a saint when the temple was consecrated. The founding day is celebrated with pomp each year.
