TEMPLE FOR SUN -- KONARK SUN TEMPLE

A temple near the shores of Bay of Bengal . Located exactly in Konark, Puri district in the state of Odisha, India. It is one of the last in the list of temples built by Eastern Ganga dynasty . It was built by King Narasimhadeva I during 13th century exactly around 1250 CE. Even though worshipping in the temple declined after few years, now it has gained its popularity again. This temple is declared as one of the World Heritage site by UNESCO.
 The architecture of this temple is almost poetic in nature. It is highly rich in sculptures . It is build with a theme of a chariot , which consist of 24 large wheels with 7 horses tied to it as thr God Sun is believed to travel. As it is near the sea, it is built in such a way that the sun's rays fall on the God Sun's idol placed in the temple.


KONARK SUN TEMPLE 
Originally the temple had a larger vimana which fell due to the area's weak soil texture. The present temple structure is the Jagamohana  a audience hall which was built for devotees. All the main pujas in the temple take place in the navagraha temple . And also a temple is maintained for goddess saranya , wife of God Sun , on the south-west side of the temple. One of the popular festival of the temple is Chandrabhaga mela.

Chandrabhaga Mela --- Maha saptami also known as chandrabhaga mela is one of the main festival conducted especially for God Sun. It generally falls under the month of february. Which is celebrated for the return of sun to northern hemisphere.On this day all the pilgrims take bath in the sacred chandrabhaga river before the sunrise and welcomes the God Sun on that day.

Another main festival is Konark Dance Festival .It is held in early days of the month of december. This take place during evening as the sun sets , dance performances by various classical dancer are filled in the stage.

On coming to the travel to the temple, Bhubaneshwar is the nearest and easiest place to be reached by all means of transport. And from there by road konark can be reached easily. East coast railways also help in reaching this place.
