As we say about gayatri mantra, it is found to be the most sacred of all mantras in sanatana dharma. Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita that he has to be Gayatri among all mantras. The mantra is refered to be Gayatri because it is set on vedic meter called Gayatri. Gayatri mantra is said to be the most ancient Indian scripture. Gayatri mantra was revealed by brahmarishi Vishwamitra. Gayatri mantra is also called as Savtri mantra. Gayatri mantra is unique in its own way that it is a praise to god, a spritual practice and a prayer all three into one. the mantra as follows

First part of mantra is about thanking the god who created all three worlds, second part of mantra comprises yogic practice which is a brilliant destroyer of sins. Third part of mantra is a prayer to Gayatri devi to enlighten our mind and soul.
