Movement Meditation Helping Our Body Create A ‘Spiritual Path’ | How To Do Movement Meditation

Movement Meditation

What is Movement Meditation?

  • Movement meditation simply means meditation in which we move and movement is involved.

  • Movement meditation which is also known as moving meditation consists of a wide range of techniques.

  • Any movement of ours can be transferred as meditation if we effectively move at a slow pace and apply mindfulness.

When is Movement Meditation Ideal | Best time to do Movement Meditation

If you feel energetic then it is the right time to do movement meditation. Sitting meditation isn’t suitable for people who are often restless or vigorous therefore a productive alternative would be moving meditation.

Participants in few retreats and monasteries usually do moving meditation – walking meditation and sitting meditation alternatively. This eventually stimulates the blood circulation in the body and gives the body some physical exercise and helps to release the physical tension.

Can A ‘Spiritual Path’ Be Created?

Our bodies can for sure create a “Spiritual Path” by meditation. It is said and most people believe that the tool for spiritual exploration in mind, thus we use the mind in almost all types of meditations. Spiritual injuries are often caused by emotion (especially love). There’s a concept that the body can also provide an arena for spiritual exploration.

Even in sitting meditation or while sleeping there are small movements by actions of breathing, heartbeat, and tiny muscle adjustments.

Few General Guidelines/Instructions for Movement Meditation

  • Being Attentive. Being mindful of our contact with other external surfaces (it can be either the floor or objects), muscle motion, energy movement within the body (includes the interchange of energy with the outside world) and natural responses to stimuli. Pay attention to the stillness that occurs in the activity of the heart and other movement aspects.

  • Entering into the world of body. For a particular extent, the body is just not only our body. It has its own right along with its own pleasures and needs, and its own consciousness. We can easily enter into this world by covering our ears with hands (to terminate the sense of hearing) and closing our eyes (to terminate the sense of eyesight).

  • Moving slowly. Focusing more on the motion rather than practical goal is more necessary. Contractions and adjustments of muscles happen while changing positions in a slow manner. Slowness in movements helps to perceive more energy.

  • Moving the body in its manner. Don’t impose or force the body to do actions. Let the body act it in own speed. This allows the body to feel relaxation, pleasure and increases the comfort level.
