A small Village with 700 families(approx) in Pudukkottai District, TamilNadu named Meivazhi Salai is practically living without electricity for more than a century and the villagers are the followers of Meivazhi tradition and also as a religion "மறலி கை தீண்டா சாலை ஆண்டவர்கள் à®®ெய் மதம்" which was originated in the 1900s in India. Meivazhi means True Path. Meivazhi Salai is a small community located in Illupur Village. This Village is known for its spiritual traditions.
Meivazhi Salai Andavargal, founder of the above said religion, is believed to be the Last Avatar of God according to all the Puranas and faiths. Like any other religion that existed with its own beliefs, Meivazhi also centers around accomplishing its own image of 'illumination' and vanquish passing by achieving Heaven, through the lessons of Meivazhi Salai Andavargal.
Andavargal who lived for 120 years, attained Jeeva Samadhi on February 2, 1976, and was covered in his typical spot of 'tapas' in the 'Ponnaranga Devalayam' of the ashram.

LifeStyle:
This village is free from electricity, smoking, alcohol, theft, and gambling. All the followers are vegetarians as it was framed to be the principles and ethics by their founder. But nowadays, The villagers have adapted themselves to the solar-based power supply for lightings.
Also, this village is built up of thatched huts and bamboo doors. Also, the houses don't have toilets. All the men and women are said to be headed to the community toilet built-in common.
The villagers will address each other in the name of Saalai as a prefix to their names. More than 63 different religious people are living together by abandoned their religion and adopted Aandavar as their god and following his principles. Deceased members of the Saalai are buried within their vicinity of their Meivazhi Salai.
To them, the departed souls reach heaven by the grace of Aandavar, so that they celebrate the funeral ceremonies without shedding tears.
Shrines and Etiquette :
Meivazhi has two blessed holy places called 'ashrams' with a dressing standard if one needs to enter. Men who have gotten the most elevated level of spiritual teaching will wear saffron shirts and traditional Hindu Panchakacham pants. Other men wear white turbans and garments other than saffron and in dark shades. Ladies who have gotten the most significant level of wisdom showing wear saris and cover their head with a saffron scarf, while other ladies cover their head with the end of the saris.
Prayer Timings:
The ashram is opened for offering prayer from 4.00 a.m to 10.00 p.m. 12-noon prayer is the most important one.
