Arulmigu Shri Suryanar Kovil Temple
Suryanar Kovil (also called as Suryanar Temple) is a Hindu Temple devoted to the god Hindu Sun-God, situated in Suryanar Kovil, a town close to the South Indian town of Kumbakonam Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu, India. The directing god is Suriyanar, the Sun and his consorts Ushadevi and Pratyusha Devi. The shrine additionally has separate sanadhis for the other eight planetary gods. The shrine is viewed as one of the nine Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu.
It is believed that this temple is built during the rule of Kulottunga Choladeva (1060-1118 CE) in the eleventh century with later increases from the Vijayanagar time period, has a five-layered rajagopuram, the door tower and a rock divider encasing every one of the holy places of the temple.

Sthala Puranam / Temple Story & History:
As Sage Kalava had suffered from severe ailments along with leprosy, he prayed to the nine planets to get him free from the illness. By seeing his devotion and satisfied with his divinity, the nine planets appeared and blessed him by which he got cured. On seeing this, Brahma, God of Creator, got angered as planets don't have power to bless the people with their demands. So he cursed the planets with Kalava's ailments and were sent practical in Vellurukku Vanam, the white wild bloom wilderness. The planets reverred Shiva to ease them off the revile. Shiva appeared to them and said that the spot had a place with them and they would need to bless the devotees whoever surrenders themselves to get revealed from their sufferings from the place. And he asked them to eat curd rice in Vellurukku leaf , so the poison along with the food will cure their illness. By following that for 78 days, Planets got recovered. This is the only temple where there are independent shrines for each planet deities. It is likewise the one and significant among the nine planetary temples where Shiva isn't the presiding deity.
