Lord Muruga married his second consort Valli in this beautiful temple.
This is the place where Lord Muruga killed the demon Surapadma, Simhamukha and Tarakasura which festival is popularly known as "Soorasamharam".

The famous "Vetri vel Veera vel" chanting by people resembles the victory of Lord Murga over demon Soorapadman.

During the battle between Soorapadma Lord Mruuga pierced the body Soorapdaman , then he transformed to a huge mango tree.
The Lord Muruga cut the mango tree into two pieces with his weapon "vel".
They transformed into peacock and cock.
Lord Muruga took peacock as his "vahana" and Cock took place on his flag.
