Kundrathur Murugan temple is an eminent temple located on the chennai surroundings. It is located in Kundrathur town of Kanchipuram district. This is the only Lord Murugan temple in Tamil nadu where lord faces north direction facing Thanigai. This temple was constructed by the king Kulothunga Cholan II.

Temple History And Specials

• In this temple Lord Murugan can be seen with only one of his consorts at a time still he is along with his both consorts Valli and Deivanai.
• There are 84 steps from the root to the top of the hill.
• The design and architecture of this temple is noteworthy.
• In this temple, Lord Muruga installed Shiva Linga and performed pooja on his way after defeating demons in Tiruporur.
• Lord Shiva worshiped by Lord Muruga blesses devotee in the name of Kandleeswarar in a separate shrine.
• This is the birth place of famous Tamil poet Sekkizhar who wrote Periya Puranam, a famous Tamil epic.
• There s a separate shrine for Saint and Poet Sekkizhar in this temple.
• During Sekkizhar Guru Pooja, Lord comes to down hill and grace Dharshan to Sekkizhar.
