Mylapore Mundakanni Amman Temple
Goddess Mundakanni Amman is known to be a form of Goddess Saraswati who graces people with wisdom in fine arts. Mundakanni Amman also relieves people from Naga Dosham as the temple is believed to be the home of snake Anthil. It is trusted that the snake worships Amman till today. A banyan tree is located behind the amman sanctum sanctorum.
Temple History / Specials
- It is believed that that Goddess Mundakanni Amman holds the power of three major gods of Hinduism Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
- In the starting years people used a hut as a sanctum for Ambal and worshiped her.
- Later magnificent structure for this temple is built.
- Amman's swayambu form looks like a lotu bud and hence she is called as Goddess Mundaka Kanni Amman. Mundakam means lotus.
- It is known that Ambal graces us by residing in hut indicate simplicity.
