Hill Murugan Temple:

Lord Hill Murugan temple is situated in upper Bukit Timah Road,Singapore.The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan known for his beauty,wisdom,truth and knowledge.The main deity is present at the top hill.Steps are found to reach the main deity.Lord Murugan is believed to have immense power due to which drew a large crowd.


History:

Once a plumber called Mr.Shanmugam in Lam San village found a small shrine of Lord Muneeswaran while working there.He took this shrine and informed to the members of the village. Mr.Lingam the president of Hill Murugan temple was then a member there offered puja to the shrine.due to some problems puja was stopped.One day, Mr.Lingam had a dream.An old white dressed man knocked the door and uttered, 'Go and light up the shrine and offer prayers as usual.It would be good to you'.Thus came the rebirth of the temple.The temple was transformed from Muneeswaran to Murugan Hill Temple after installation of main deity Lord Murugan.Also,by the suggestion of priest from Maha Mariamman temple.In 1973, the temple was registered officially as Murugan Hill Temple.

Deities:

The main deity is Lord Murugan along with his consorts Valli and Deivanai.The other deities are Lord Ganesha,Lord Shiva and Parvathi,Durga,Kalabairavar,Navagraha,Annapoorani,Lord Perumal,Saibaba,Muneeswaran and Kali.Also spacious hall is present for annadhanam and for religious functions.

Pujas and Festivals:

Pujas are held from 7:00am - 12:00pm and 6:00pm - 9:00pm. Raagu kala puja @ 3:00pm & Prathosa puja @ 4:00pm is also held.Special pujas like 108 sangu abishegam,ganapathy homam/skandha homam,navagraha shanti,kiraha shanti,special archana,vilaku pujai,wedding at sanctum,wedding at hall,vagana puja etc are done.The majority of Hindu festivals are celebrated here.
  • The major festivals celebrated are Annual festival every year during March/April for Eleven days.First day hoisting flag,Chariot festival on the Nineth day,water cutting ceremony on Tenth day(Panguni uthiram) and Thirukalyanam on Eleventh day.
  • Skandhashashti festival in the month of october for seven days starting after Diwali and finishing with Soora Samharam followed by Thirukalyanam.
  • Navarathri festival during the month of September-October for ten days .
  • Thai poosam festival in the month of January on Poosam Natchathra. Devotees carry milk pots around the temple(4am - 12pm).
  • Thiruvilaku puja on every full moon day.
  • Karthigai on every month,abishegam is performed for Lord Murugan and the Utchavamoorthy is taken in procession inside the temple.
  • Mahasivarathri,Sri Kaliamman Karagam,Sri Periyachi Kaparai and Muneeswaran puja are also celebrated.
