Sri Naganathaswamy Temple - Rahu Sthalam:
Sri Naganathaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the famous among Nine Navagraha Temples. This temple is located in Tanjore district. Tirunageshwaram is situated near Kumbakonam. The main deity of the temple is Lord Naganathaswamy. The temple's special feature is Rahu Bhagavan graces with his consorts Nagavalli and Nagakanni. This temple is where Rahu worshiped Lord Shiva and got relieved of a curse. The very significant feature of the Rahu shrine here is the Rahu Bhagavan is seen with human face. In other places, Rahu is seen with a serpent face.
Overview:
The temple region was originally a forest of Senbaka trees. A Shivalingam was found under one of these trees here and hence he came to be known as Shenbagarane Eswara.On entering the main entrance, the Rahu shrine is found in the South West corner of the praharam. The magical scene is that when milk abishekam is performed for Rahu shrine, the milk poured turns blue. Offering of blue cloth and Mantharai flower is considered special to him. The mythological serpents Aadi Seshan, Dakshan, Kaarkotakan and Nala worshiped Lord Shiva here. People suffering from malefic effects of Rahu are suggested to visit this temple to get rid of it.
