The name Nagapoosani amman can be split into ‘Nagam’ and ‘Poosani’.Nagam means sanke and Poosani means Ornament. Thus Nagapoosani  Amman means the Goddess who  wears a snake. She is also called as ‘Nagamani Amman’, meaning the one who adorns herself with a snake as a necklace. It is believed that this Nagamani Amman makes one to get rid of all dhoshams, mainly Nagadhosham and blesses a happy and prosperous life.
History/Legend:
It is believed that Seetha was suffering from Kalathira Dhosham , when Rama was under exile(vanavaasam). Both of them were worried and restless because of this dhosham. Then Rama worshipped Sri Nagapoosani Amman to cure Seetha’s dhosham. Sri Nagamani Amman showered her blessings to Seetha and cured her dhosham. Seetha got rid of the dhosham and its ill effects. Then, Rama rejoined Seetha and led a blessed life.

  • If an unmarried girl having Nagadhosham worships this Amman with divine hope, she will get rid of Nagadhosham and will be blessed with a happy married life, just the same how she expected it to be.
  • Puuthiradhosham is also cured by Nagamani Amman. Hence, couples with no children will be blessed with healthy children, if they consistently worship this Ambal.
  • Kalasarpa Dhosham and Kalathira Dhosham also will be nullified by Nagapoosani Amman.
  • The Sani Bhagavan in this temple is believed to be very powerful and the intense of Sani Bhagavan during his reign in a person’s life is said to be lessened if one lights a lamp to Saeeswarar in this temple.

Pooja details:
  • Daily Abishegam and Dheepa Aaradhanai is done every morning.
  • During Purattaasi, the temple functions from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm on Saturdyas. The devotees light the Ellu Vilakku during this period.
  • During November, the temple is open from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm for all days, throughout the month.

Temple timings:
  • 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm, during Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm during Tuesday and Friday.
