  • When one wants to give money, the giver and the taker shouldn't stand in the entrance(vasalpadi) while giving or receiving money.
  • One should not sit on the entrance, ural, aatukal and ammi which are the types of grinding machines in tamil culture which have been used before. Even now these things are used in villages and some town houses.
  • One should not leave the banana leaf (vazhai ilai) and beetle leaf (vettrilai) dry.
  • One should not wear torn clothes.
  • One should not spill salt on the head.
  • When washing the rice, spilling of rice shouldn't be done.
  • One should not permit to take milk and curd from the house.
  • One should off the light lit on Kuthu vilaku by flowers.
  • No one at home should be addressed or scolded in the name of sani.
  • Sasthras says, hair cutting, shaving, cutting of nails shouldn't be done on tuesdays and fridays and also on the days having bharani, kruthigai, tiruvadhirai, maham, ayilyam, pooram, visagam, kettai, moolam, pooradam and pooratadhi nakshatras.
  • One should pray Agni deva (fire) before starting to cook.

  • Pieces of flowers should not be used for puja.
  • After getting up from sleep, one should pray bhoomadevi(mother earth) and mumoorthis(shiva, vishnu & brahma) and also mupperundevi(shakti, lakshmi & saraswathy) for the day to be good.
  • Buying of salt on fridays will give luck says sasthras.
  • In the night time, the wastes shouldn't be thrown outside.
  • In the entrance door the sacred bindhis (kungumam and turmeric) to be kept so that species like snake and poisonous insects won't enter home.
  • Lighting of Vilaku should be done in early morning before sunrise and before sunsets in the evening which brings happiness in the family.
  • The Viboodhi (sacred ash) given in temples as prasdha shouldn't be left at the temple pillars.
  • The Viboodhi can be worn when getting up from the sleep, when going out, after bath, before eating, when sun rises, when sun sets and when starting a good work.
  • Marriage should not be organized in the tamil months of aani, aadi, purattasi, margahi and maasi. The reason behind these are in the month of aani, Lord Vishnu killed Marabali king. In the month of aadi, demon Ravana was killed, in the month of purattasi, Iraniyan was killed. The Mahabharata war took place in the month of margazhi and in the month of maasi Lord Shiva drank the poison. Hence in these months, marriages are not recommended.
