Pradosha | What is Pradosha or Pradosham?

Pradosha:

Pradosha is closely connected with Lord Shiva. When the Devas and the Demons churned the ocean in order to obtain Amrita, the nectar of immortality. During this event the poisonous venom was drank by Lord Shiva in order to protect the world. This incident which took place in the Saturday evening is said to be Maha Pradosha time. During the Pradosha time, one who worship Lord Shiva with Mother Parvathi and their younger son Lord Murugan gets their wishes come true. And also one who worship Lord Shiva as Natarajar gets all the wealth and peaceful life.

Pradosha Vrata:

Lord Shiva protected the world by drinking the venom in ocean during 'Samudra Manthari'. So the Devas escaped from the dosha. This took place at the yegadesi evening. The next day on Thuvadhasi, Lord Shiva appeared and drank amrita. The very next day Devas on Thiriyodhasi praised and worshiped Lord Shiva. On this event, in the evening Lord Shiva danced in between the horns of Nandhi in front of Mother Parvathi. All the souls who witnessed this dance came out of the doshas. From that time onwards, on Thiriyodhasi evening 4.30 to 6.30pm the pradosha is performed. During pradosha time to worship Lord Shiva, all the Devas gather at one place. Hence,  when worshiping Lord Shiva during pradosha, one can get darshan of Devas too. So one who perform vrata and worship Lord Shiva during pradosha get rid of all doshas and gets blessings from the Lord.

Nandhi puja during pradosha:

As Nandhi is head of Sivaganam, he stands as security for Lord Shiva. He is the vehicle for Lord Shiva. In Kailash when UmaMaheshwarar sits on the swing (oonjal), Nandhi Deva stands opposite and flows the swing with his breathe. During pralayapradosha the whole universe gets into Lord Shiva, but Nandhi Deva alone acts as the vehicle of Lord Shiva. So during pradosha, by performing puja to Nandi deva, one can  get the entire blessings from the Lord Shiva. Hence, at the time of pradosha abishegam and puja is performed for both Lord Shiva and Nandhi Deva.
