Hanuman stood on one of the tallest buildings of Lanka, which was now filled with flames and people crying out for help. Hanuman stood there enjoying the scene, patting himself for the meticulously lit fire and the desperate people running out to save their lives.
Suddenly a thought came into his mind. How could the fire that he lit had not caused any harm to him? The guards of the palace of Raavan had lit fire to his tail. Surely this must have caused him damage. Instead, to his surprise he found his tail to be ice cold. Just when he was realizing this, another thought came his mind which made him shiver through his bones. All this time he had forgotten the fact that Sita had been held a captive here in the same Lanka where he had just lit the fire on. This means that Sita could have been a victim of the fire, just like thousands of other Lankans who are running for lives now.
Startled by this thought, hanuman got to his heels and went running in search of Sita, to find completely unharmed. Overwhelmed seeing the god lady, hanuman made his apology for all the trouble he would have possibly caused her. But at the same time he wanted to know how could she have possibly survived the fire. Sita’s answer to this definitely made an impact on Hanuman.
Sita on the other hand had been equally shocked because of the sudden commotions in the city. She had always prayed for Ram to come and rescue her from the Ashokavan. But the fire came as a surprise even to her. Well it might be scary for normal people but for someone as pure and mighty as the Sitadevi, not even the fire could do any harm on her ultimate sacredness.
What startled sita the most was when the palace guards lit fir to hanuman’s tails. That’s when she made a prayer to her mighty self that “if my love and devotion for ram is pure and sacred and as true as ram’s undying love and respect on me, then no harm will ever occur to hanuman in saving such a sacred bond for love.”
Hanuman’s love and respect for the godly couple had always been impeccable. There are numerous stories that could tell us about the love and bond ram- sita shared. The great sage wanted the stories to be told and cherished for ages. Thus he compiled the stories that he heard, saw and inspired into a series and called it Shri Rama charithra.
This particular part of the epic is named as Sita’s nobleness and chastity
