History and Specialities
· In this temple, Lord Aatkondanathar is a
swayambumurthi.
· Lord Muruga and his consorts Valli and Deivanai appear
in their individual peacock vahans in the prakara. This is particularly a
different attribute when compared to the other temples.
· Usually, Lord Muruga and his consorts Valli and
Deivanai appear in the same peacock vahan. Therefore, this seems unique about
this temple.
· This beautiful and graceful appearance of the God
grabs the eyes of the devotees and makes them standstill.
· The Amman / Thayar of this temple is Shivapurandevi
and the Thala virutcham is Vilwa.
· Sri Aatkondanathar temple is 500 years old situated in
Iraniyur, Sivaganga district.
· This temple is one of the Ashta Bhairava Sthalas.

Festivals Celebrated in This Temple

the months of November – December, Karthikai Champaka Sashti and Thirukarthikai
is celebrated.

the period of December – January, Margazhi Tiruvadhirai is celebrated.

but not the least Maha Shivrathri is celebrated in the months February – March.

festivals are undoubtedly celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion by the
devotees as a grand occasion.

How to Reach the Temple:
The devotees must reach Tirupattur/Thiruppathur on the Thanjavur road from Madurai
which is around 60 km. And has to further travel about 12 km to Keelsevalpatti
from where bus facilities are available. From Keelsevalpatti/Kilasevalpatti, Iraniyur is 4 km.
As buses are quite rare there, hiring of autos might be comfortable.

nearest airport is Madurai airport.
People who would like to stay can choose Karaikudi for accommodation.

The temple generally opens at 06.00 AM in the morning
and closes at 12.00 Noon. And reopens at 05.00 PM and completely closes by 07.30
PM.
