About Sri Sakkarai Amma:
Sri Sakkarai Amma, originally named as Anandamba, born in 1854 at Devikapuram, Polur District. Her father was a priest in the Sri Brihanayakki(Periyanayaki) Temple. Unlike other girls in her age, Anandamba finds her joy in meditation and in spirituality. Having her father as priest, she used to visit temple often and sit and meditate for hours in front of Devi Sri Bhuvaneshwari. As by those days custom, Anandamba got married at her very early age around nine and sent to live along with her husband in Komaleesavaranpet (Now called as Pudupet). As her husband hadn't lead a disciplined life, he passed away when Anandamba was twenty. When all the people around her were worried for her misfortune,Anadamba felt immense relief as she could dedicate herself to the spirutual deeds completely.
After her husband's demise, she travelled back to Devikapuram to live with her parents, where she found her guru Nakshathra Gunamba who blessed her with a Bird feat called "Lahima"(Ability to make oneself weightless, one among the 8 siddhis) which she attained through several yogic practices.
Later she travelled to Madras and got a disciple named Dr. Nanchunda Rao who turned to be her follower after interacting and impressed by her divinity. He came to realize that she was a Sri Chakra Upasaka and begun calling her as Sri Chkkarathamma, signifying 'The Mother of Sri Chakra.' Later, it became 'Sakkaraiamma' for everyone's knowledge and that was very well-suited for her meaning Sugar (Sweet) Mother!
By 1901, she left her physical body. But her immortal Soul(Aathma) is believed to be blessing everyone who visits the place and serving all the good deeds to them.
