Thirukarugavur temple, popularly known as Garbharakshambigai temple, is one of the most famous temples, dedicated, exclusively to Lord Shiva. Being situated on the Southern banks of the Vettar river, the temple has the tree, Madhavi, which gives it the name, Madhavipuram (or) Mullaivanam.
The name of the temple has been derived from: Karu means womb, Ka means save, and Oor means village. It is believed, that the womb of a pregnant woman, is being protected by the deity.
This temple is considered to be the most special and powerful, especially, for women who are pregnant. The deity of the temple, is popularly known as Garbarakshagi/Karukaatha Amman.

How to reach:
If you are going to travel by train, you could take a train to either Tanjavur or Papanasam.
There are several buses from Tanjavur and Papanasam to Thirukarugavur. Else, you could hire autorickshaws or shareautos, too.
