Agastheeswarar Temple Kolapakkam | Surya Sthalam / Temple At Kolapakkam
Agastheeswarar Temple near Kolapakkam is one of the ancient temples of India and this temple is dedicated to planet sun and the presiding deity is Lord Agastheeswarar. It is located between Guindy and Porur main Road.
Temple History And Special / Highlights
- The eminent saint Agastyar / Agastya is believed to be worhsipped lord Shiva here and hence the lord's name Agastheeswarar.
- This temple is believed to be 1500 years old.
- It has an eminent Suryan sanctum in it.
- It is pone of the famous parihara sthalam in Chennai.
- The lord here is also worshiped by the eminent saint Vakeesa and hence the lord here is also called Lord Vakeeswarar.
- There are separate sanctums for Lord Ganesha/ PIllayar, Lord Kasi Vishwanathar and Goddess Vishalakshi, Lord Murugar along with his wives Goddess Valli and Deivanai.
- The vehicle of Lord Muruga, peacock, is made up of green granite and hence it is called as "Maragatha Mayil" in this temple.
- There is also sanctum for lord Kala Bhairava.
- The temple was in ruins till 1998 after it is renovated in the following years.

Temple Timings : 7 AM to 11 AM.
Temple Timings: 4 PM to 8 PM.

There are lot of buses and share autos hail from Porur to this beautiful and ancient temple.
By Train
Nearest railway station is Guindy and from there you can get share autos or buses.
By Air
It is about 30 minutes travel from Chennai international airport.
