The main deity of Dharbaranyeswarar Temple is Lord Shiva. The temple is dedicated Lord Saneeswaran(The Saturn Temple) and is one of the important Navagraha Temples of India. It is believed that planet Saturn reside in each zodiac sign for 1 1/2 years and this planet is worshiped before entering the Lord Shiva's inner sanctum.
Eminent Tamil saints like Appar, Sundarar and Sambandar were sung hymns on this magnificent temple. Arunagirinathar the ardent devotee of Lord Muruga has also composed hymns on this deity and there is also a separate sanctum for Lord Murugan.
