Kuchanur Shani Bhagavan

History / Story

A certain temples, however, offer relief to those who suffer a lot during these periods of Lord Shani’s movements in the horoscope. Kuchanur is one of them. Unlike other Shani parihara temples, this is a temple dedicated to Lord Shani, who is the presiding deity here. The history of three temple goes as, the ruler of Kalinga, Dinakara, had no children. He and his wife were blessed by Urvashi, the celestial nymph that when Vindhuruvai, the queen feels secretion of breast milk when seeing a baby, the baby should be adopted. The king and queen brought various children across the nation to the palace, and one fine day, Vindhuruvai felt the secretion of milk. The child was adopted and named Chandravadanan. Soon, the queen gave birth to a biological son Sadhagan. When the king turned old, he decided to crown Chandravadanan, the adopted son.

Chandravadanan came to know the king was suffering from Shani doshsa, and wanted to relieve his father.
Chandravadanan did a penance, which pleased Lord Shani, and the lord offered to reduce the time period to 7.5 months, instead of 7.5 years. However, Chandravadanan again meditated which satiated Lord Shani. This time, he asked the lord to give the effects to him instead of his aged father. Lord Shani was appeased, and he offered to give the effects to him as requested just for 7.5 Nazhigai( 1 nazhigai = 24 minutes). The king who went after the son found Sadhgan severed and Chandravadhanan meditating. When the old king tried to sever the head of Chandravadhanan, Lord Shani appeared and narrated the incident.
