Sri Sathyagiriswarar Temple:

Thirumayam is an historical site where both Lord Shiva temple and Lord Vishnu temple called Twin temples are found.The twin temples are constructed during the 7th century to promote harmony among Saivite and Vaishnavite faiths.Both the temples are constructed on the hill slope as cave temple.Lord Sathyagiriswarar temple is the oldest among the two temple.Lord Sathyagiriswarar temple is said to be 2000 years old.This temple is situated at Tirumayam, 21kms from Pudukottai.

The Cave temple has sanctum with a Linga cut out from the parent rock.

History:

 History of the temple says, Dharma lost its stand by wickedness.The Dharma devatha due to its lost dharma hid herself in the form of deer in the forest.The forest was full of bamboo(venu) tree hence the name of Thayar graces here is called as Venuvaneswari. The moolavar is Sri Sathyagiriswarar and Thayar is Venuvaneswari.The temple's sthala vruksha is bamboo and sthala theertham is Chandra pushkarani. Sage sathya Maharishi have done penance in this temple and worshipped Lord shiva.

Specialities:

Both Lord Shiva and Thayar Venuvaneswari are facing east like Madurai.Both god is merciful to their devotees.Lord Sathyagiriswarar appears as a handsome Shivalingam.Shiva temple stands to the west of Vishnu temple.The circumambulate that is girivalam covers both the Shivan temple and Vishnu temple together.Devotees pray here to enhance softness,reduce anger and seek wedding boon.

Devotees offers bangles and dolls to Venuvaneswari for their wish come true.

Festivals:

• Ten days of chitirai festival is observed which drove large number of crowd.
• Aadi pooram and Thai poosam are also celebrated.
• On the full moon day of each month devotees circumambulate (girivalam) the hill.
• Both Tamil and English newyears,Diwali,Pongal are celebrated.
• Usual Pradhosa is observed.
