Arulmigu Thiruthalinathar:
Arulmigu Thiruthalinathar temple is situated in Tiruppattur, 27 kms from Sivagangai and 22 kms from Karaikudi.The presiding deity is Lord Thiruthalinathar.The thayar graces here is called Sivakami,Soundaranayagi.This temple had a royal patronage during the Chera,Chola and Pandiya period and also during the Pallava Kings.
Overview:
The history says Goddess Mahalakshmi wished to see Lord Shiva's dance.Lord Shiva accepted the wish of Goddess Mahalakshmi and performed the Cosmic dance called as "Gowri Thandavam".Another incident was the snakes called Vasuki and Kaarkotakan worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple.Hence there is a separate shrine for Tirunageswarar appears here.The concept of Lord Shiva and Pranavam was realized to be same here.Sage Agasthyar,Valmiki and Devandran's son worshipped Lord Shiva here.Sri Ninra Narayana Perumal temple is also found here.For the sake of Lord Vishnu in standing posture,another perumal temple was constructed during the Pandiya period in the south of Shiva temple.This temple is the sixth Tevara sthala.
Temple's Shrines and Sculptures:
Lord Tiruthalinathar is the presiding deity facing east. Sivakami also faces east gracing to the north of main sanctum sanctorum.This temple covers a huge area where three praharas are found.The manadapam in the front of the temple has pillars sculptured with beautiful images on it.The sthala vruksha is 'Konrai tree' and the theertam is called 'Garuda theertham'. The Yoga Bhairavar shrine gracing west plays a significant role in the temple.The Shrines of Lord Muruga graces here with his beautiful consorts . Also,small shrines of Ganapathy,Dakshinamoorthy,Durgai,Mahalakshmi,Sun god,Visalakshi amman are found here.Usual Pradhosha pooja's drove a large crowd here.
