Chennimalai Murugan Temple:

Chennimalai is a hill area which is situated in Perundurai, Erode district. Chennaimalai is a hill temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. This temple is situated at about 600 meters above sea level. The hill's beauty is so interesting to watch which also has rare medicinal herbs. This hill is also called Sigaragiri, Pushpagiri and Siragiri. This is the temple where Arunagirinathar was blessed with " Padikasu", wealth of coins.
A miracle took place in this temple in the year 1984 which was a bullock cart with two bulls climbed the steps of the temple on their own to reach the sanctum.

Temple's Speciality and overview:

The temple is situated on the banks of Noyal river also called Kanchima Nadhi. The presiding deity Lord Murugan faces East. Behind the main temple one can reach Valli Deivanai temple which is a unique feature of the temple as they are enshrined in a separate temple. On the top hill, cave of Pinnakau Siddhar who is one of the popular 18 Siddhar known for their Siddha yoga is found. The holy water for the purpose of abishegam is brought by the temple bulls everyday which is a unique feature not found in other temples.



The Mamanga Theertham found in the southern side of the temple gushes out water once in twelve years. The sthala vruksha is Tamarind tree where there is a shrine for Puliyamarathadi Vinayagar. The main deity is called as ' Siragiri Dandayudhapanai' who gave dharshan to Saravana Munivar. The utsavar is called as Muttukumara Subramaniyar along with his consorts. The Chennimalai sthalapuram has 207 verses divided into six cantos. The author of this work was Poet saint Saravana Munivar who initially built this temple and the festives were also initiated by him. The temple pooja is observed according to the Kamika Agamam. Milk and curds are offered as special offerings to Lord Muruga in Chennimalai and it is a belief that curds do not become sour here. The other shrines are Malaivazhi Vinayagar, Natarajar, Tirumuga Malarndha Nathar, Tiruthar Kuzhali, Kailaya Nathar, Periyanayagi, Markandesar, Imayavalli, Tirusandhi Vinayagar, Valli Deivanai and Idumban.

Festivals:

Shashti vradham(fast)  is observed in the temple by the devotees of 6 days fast at temple premises to get their vow fulfilled. Another important feature here is that Kanda Shashti Kavasam was first offered to the world in this temple by Balan Devaraya Swamigal. From that day onwards till today many devotees keep chanting this prayer everyday. Another feature is asking Lord's permission before taking up any tasks or issues is customary in this temple which is known as Sirasuppu Utharavu Kettal. The other important festivals are Tamil newyear, Chithra Pournami, Vaigasi Visagam, Aadi new moon utsav, Thaipoosam car festival and Panguni uthiram car festival.On every month new moon day, Shashti and Kritikai special festivals are conducted.
