Lord Rahu Mythology, Dosha Parihara, Temples, Mythology and Story

Rahu - Chhayya Graha:

Rahu, ascending node of the moon and its afflicts the moon more than any other planet. Rahu is a severed head of Demon that swallows the Sun causing eclipses. Rahu is one of the Navagrahas(nine planets) in Vedic astrology and is paired with Ketu. Rahu is the head of the Serpent. He brings shock and dark side of life and he brings sudden changes, upheavals, even   quick boons. He manipulates and obscures everything he touches. Rahu does not allow people to think clearly and brings deceit and dishonesty with him.


It is also said that worldly benefits come with him as well. The enjoyable and exotic travels can also come with Rahu. Rahu and Ketu are always looking directly at each other. Thus, whatever Rahu gives, Ketu will be sure to take it away. Snakes encountered in people's dream or life are often thought to be manifestations of Rahu. The seagull or gull is known to be an aspect of Rahu. Goddess Durga is often associated with Rahu. The direction South West is given to the rulership of Rahu. The color black is associated with Rahu as well as the color "smoke". Rahu's metal is Lead. Rahu and Ketu are also known as Chhayya Graha (shadow planets). Rahu represents North node. Rahu is the planet of materialism. In people's life Rahu represents the darker side of nature which one should need to overcome.

Mythology:

The mythology of Rahu is said as during Samudra manthan, Demon Rahu drank some of the Amirta (divine nectar). The sun and moon realized it and alerted Mohini( female version of Vishnu ). Mohini cut off the demon's head before the nectar could pass his throat. The head however remained immortal due to the effect of amirta and became Rahu. This immortal head from time to time swallows the sun causing eclipses.

Rahu's effects:

Rahu, significator of the following effects as per 'Uttara Kalamitra'. Harsh speech, faulty logic, unclean, abdominal ulcers, falsehoods, serpents are some of the common effects of Rahu. However it may change according to the birth chart of a person. However, it has to be noted that being a shadow planet it gives results based on other planetary influences.

Remedies of Rahu Dosha | Getting Rid Of Rahu Dosha:

By performing following things, one can get rid of from the effects of Rahu. Abishekam for snake statue, visiting Rahu sthala, donating black gram dhal, nagaprathista, nagabali, chanting mantras for Rahu. Also worshiping Lord Subramanya and Goddess Durga is an effective remedy during Rahu Kalam. Remedial measures done in a very conducive muhurta will neutralize any severe Sarpa doshas(effects).

Temples for Rahu:

Famous temple for Rahu in Tamilnadu is Tirunageswaram. Sri Kalahasthi in Andhra Pradesh, Nagaraja temple at Nagercoil, Ardhanareeswarar temple in Thiruchengode, Thirupamabaram temple, Srivanjiyam, Kukke Subramanya temple at Karnataka, Mannarsala in Kerala, Neeladakshi temple in Nagapattinam and Rameswaram temple.
