Sri Mouna Swamigal Life & History:



Sri Mouna Swamigal formerly named as Singaravelan, was born in 1872, at govindappa nayakan street,Chennai.His parents were Pachaiyappa chettiyar and Karpagambal. It is believed that his birth was by chidambara swamigal's blessings as their parents were longed for a child for 15 years. He has interest in drawing since his childhood. At his age of 20, he married Angamal. Once Chidambara swamigal, founder of Kandaswamy temple, gave his presence to Singaravelan and asked him to meet him at his shrine situated in Thiruporur. Without knowing who he was, Singaravelan reached the Ashram as instructed and astonished to found that the sage appeared before him was none other than the Chidambara Swamigal himself. Chidambara Swamigal adopted him as his favourite disciple and gave dheekshas and so many powers. With that he relieved the illness of so many people.From 1908 to 1926, he took yatra by visiting many temples. Among them, the most important shrine he visited was Vadalur Vallalar's GnanaSaba. He brought "Jeeva Karunya Vilakam" written by Vallalar and worshiped it along with other deities. He adhered to Mouna vradham for 16 years. So he was called as Mouna Swamigal. Two years before attaing salvation, he ended his vradham and started to speak.

Mouna Swamigal holds the prestige as he is the only one who painted his guru Chidambara Swamigal's portrait for the first time ever and letting the world known for his appearance. Till that time, no one had the knowledge of how Chidambara swamigal looks. Also he is the only person who got to see Chidambara Swamigal in person many times. Mouna Swamigal treated him as his manaseega guru and followed all his guidance and got his blessings in his journey. 

Jeeva Samadhi:

Thiruporur is situated at 45km from chennai and 15 km from mahabhalipuram.Kannagapatu is a spritual area filled with saints and priests where one will discover Mouna swamigal Jeeva Samadhi located close to the chidambara swamigal jeeva samadhi. Also contains samadhi of Mouna swamigal (as a Primary Peetam) and home one is Sambandha moorthy(Second Peetam) swamigal and subramanya swamigal(Third peetam) in the staright line.

Behind his samadhi, there is a holy room where Swamigal used to perform Raja Rajeshwari Pooja then.
Even now it is continuing by his disciple named Knadasamy, at his shrine. It is believed that His Athma is blessing his devotees and delivering good health and prosperity.

Before 90 days of his spiritual attainment, Swamigal stopped speaking as he was used to be before. He avoided food and had only herbal drink(kashayam) as his 3 times meal. By knowing his end days are nearing, he asked one of his follower to purchase a land and to prepare the place for his salvation. Later he attained Jeeva Samadhi in that shrine itself on 15-01-1926.
