Rajagopalaswamy Temple Kumbakonam 

Rajagopalaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu situated in Kumbakonam. Directing Deity is called Rajagopala Swamy and Goddess is called Sengamalavalli. The temple is one of 5 Vaishnava Temples associated with the Mahamaham celebration.

Architecture

This Temple is facing towards the east with three-layered Rajagopuram. Managing Deity is called Rajagopala Swamy. He is blessing from the sanctum with his consorts Rukmini and Sathyabama. His stance is like Mannargudi Rajagopala Swamy. Goddess is called Sengamalavalli. She is situated on a different altar. Her Shrine is arranged to the right half of the sanctum.


There is a place of worship for Srinivasa Perumal to one side of the sanctum. He is gracing the devotees with four hands holding Sangu and Chakram. There are holy places for Anjaneya and Garuda in the Temple premises. Theertham related to this Temple is Potraamarai Tank, Cauvery River, and Arasalaru.


Sthala Purana

Rajagopala Swami shows up as a shepherd in simple clothing with a turban and wearing all the kid ornaments. There are too a cow and two calves with Him. Kamsa connected with a wild elephant named Kuvalaya Peetam to kill Balarama. Lord Krishna killed that elephant. Remembering the occasion, Lord is holding a tusk in His left hand. Lord Krishna conducted a rivalry among the Gopikas bathing in the Yamuna River. The challenge was that they should dress appropriately and wear the gems after the bath. One Gopika couldn't find one of her earrings. They discovered it finally in the ear of Krishna and were energized with happiness to see its excellence in His ears. Based on this occasion, Lord in the temple has a Thadanga-earring in one ear and Kundalam-ring.

Aadi Pooram, Navaratri, Masi Brahmotsavam, Akshaya Tritiya, Garuda Sevai, and month-to-month Rohini Star days are the celebrations commended here.
