Thirumakaraleeswarar Temple:
Thirumagaraleeswarar Temple, likewise called Udumbeeswarar Temple, dedicated to God Shiva, situated in Magaral, a village in Kanchipuram locale in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Lord Shiva is adored as Thirumagaraleeswarar. The lingam appears to be in the shape of Tail of Monitor Lizard(Udumbu). His consort Goddess Parvati is portrayed as Tribuvananayagi. This temple is referred and praised in the 7th century, the Devaram, composed by Nayanmars(Thirugnana Sampanthar) and delegated Paadal Petra Sthalam.

Sthala Purana :
According to Hindu legend, Indra, the lord of heavenly divinities, gifted his Iravadham(Elephant) to Lord Muruga, during his marriage at Thiruparakundram. The heavenly couple went on the elephant. When Lord Vishnu wanted to see the couple, they showed up at Thirumagaral.
According to another legend, The king of this area needed the Jack fruit to be offered to Chidambaram Nataraja Temple regular and then to him. He ordered the public to do this everyday. When it was a turn of a kid to offer a fruit, The kid felt the action of King was not acceptable so he burned the tree as that would relieve the public from this routine. On knowing the incident, The King enquired the kid, who courageously portrayed reality. As he got irritated with him and begun chasing him to punish. He tracked down a brilliant iguana cross his way to an ant colony dwelling place. The lord burrowed the ant colony dwelling place just to see blood woozing out. A heavenly voice disclosed to him that it was Shiva who gave the idea that and the lord needed to construct a temple for his concilation. Since Shiva showed up as magaral, an iguana, the spot came to be known as Magaral and Shiva is called as Magaraleeswarar.
Also it is believed that, evil spirit Magaran was annihilated by Lord Muruga and as Magaran reverred the Shiva to revile from his curse, Lord Shiva got his name as Makaraleeswarar.
Arthanareeswara Bairava :
This temple has the important significance of Lord Bairava in Arthanareewarar form. This is the only shrine where we can adore Bairava in this unique posture.
